Portland, Oregon Metropolitan Area - TOD Station Area Plans

Crandall Arambula prepared 23 station area plans and transit corridor studies along four of the Portland region’s light rail corridors. A number of these plans have been recognized nationally as models for transit-oriented development and smart growth.

Station area plans were prepared for private developers and public agencies including Metro, the Portland Development Commission, the Cities of Milwaukie, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Portland, Vancouver, Oregon City, and Gresham. Station area plans were developed for stations that were already constructed as well as anticipated station locations along planned MAX light rail corridors. The ‘typologies’ vary widely - ranging from greenfield suburban to main street to downtown infill station areas.

All plans were adopted, and have resulted in a considerable amount of new transit-oriented development. For all station area plans, Crandall Arambula:

Served as the prime consultant and coordinated a team of transportation, economic, and other subconsultants

  • Facilitated all station area public involvement efforts

  • Provided multiple stations, concurrent station area planning services

  • Prepared all station area urban design, land use planning, and implementation services

  • Prepared station area final documents

  • Provided transit station facility design refinement in cooperation with TriMet and their transit engineering consultants

Additionally, Crandall Arambula has provided ongoing design review and plan implementation services for the Orenco Station development for the City of Hillsboro.
